ONE DAY CLINICS

Frank shares the secrets of his highly successful 7-Step Safety System which he uses on every single horse he encounters, regardless of age or issue. In a step-by-step format he teaches his students the process of first, bonding with a variety of horses.

The second step involves the most basic premise of all training, pressure and release. Intimacy follows as the horse quickly develops trust and confidence in the handler. Now the movement begins as the two drift into a rudimentary form of dancing. Next the horse’s buttons are pushed as the search begins in finding the places that can cause trouble and perhaps even danger for the horse or rider. The issues are addressed safely on the ground. The sixth maneuver creates harmony as the horse and handler perform ballet on the ground as they glide in unison and become true partners. When the invitation is extended, the handler will mount and continue the dance in the saddle. Specific exercises are now performed using all the earlier learned techniques. The participants are left with a volume of information to apply to every horse they encounter in the future. This is a very full day with an adequate lunch break to rest horses and riders.

TWO DAY CLINICS

What does it feel like to be the horse?

Students work about four hours each day with a variety of horses as Frank teaches his revolutionary 7-Step Safety System in a logical format that quickly and efficiently leads to vastly improved communication between horse and rider while raising horse/rider confidence. Afternoons, Frank demonstrates a variety of subjects i.e.: trailer loading, foot handling, ears, clippers, spookiness, pull-back, bitting, biting, kicking, balking, rearing, knot tying, spraying, bathing, etc.

Day One:

The first day begins with an exercise designed to give the riders an idea of how it feels to be a horse with a good rider as well as a bad one. Bad timing and poor releases lead to unhappy horses. Only when the students can direct each other well using only a piece of twine, is it time to begin work with the horses. The next two hours will be devoted to applying the first six steps - bonding, take and give, intimacy, the dance begins, desensitizing, and ballet on the ground. By the end of the session a new understanding and much higher level of communication is taking place between horse and rider. Many students have suddenly discovered a heightened level of depth in their relationship with horses they have owned for years.

        Communication in the Saddle

Problem Solving (over 2 days six major issues)

        Q & A

Day Two:

A thorough review of the first six steps is where the day begins. Frank then demonstrates what will take place in the saddle, namely ballet. The riders will work with perfecting their timing and releases until it becomes well programmed and ultimately automatic. The ballet in the saddle is all about using the horse’s energy constructively and with absolute purpose and total focus. It will be used as a warm-up as well in emergencies. It must become as automatic as the foot to the brake of the car in a sudden surprise. Afternoon: Q& A and problem solving.

THREE DAY CLINICS

Frank uses a piece of twine to illustrate a concept.

Students work about four hours each day with a variety of horses as Frank teaches his revolutionary 7-Step Safety System in a logical format that quickly and efficiently leads to vastly improved communication between horse and rider while raising horse/rider confidence. Afternoons Frank demonstrates a variety of subjects i.e.: trailer loading, foot handling, ears, clippers, spookiness, pull-back, bitting, biting, kicking, balking, rearing, knot tying, spraying, bathing, etc. The 3-Day Clinic is Frank’s preferred format for maximum student/horse retention.

" Graduation Day" is a happy occasion after a Frank Bell clinic.

Day Three:

It all comes together on this, the final day as horse and rider become one. A variety of exercises designed to lead to subtle communication are performed. Highly conscious riding using only leg pressure, then only hand, then only body help strengthen the partnership as the riders weave through objects on the ground. Side passing, half passing, backing, collection, transitions, and dealing with vices are thoroughly addressed and practiced. The day ends with students riding their horses with twine only and very happy horses and riders. This system is about developing a foundation. This foundation invariably leads to improvement in all future disciplines and riding activities. Instead of riding in fear or uncertainty, you'll be " riding in confidence."

Intensives are designed for the serious minded who sincerely want to vastly improve their communication skills with horses. Professionals as well as pleasure riders benefit greatly from this week of study and fun as each day builds on the previous.

Mornings begin with a lecture and demonstration of the newly introduced material, followed by student participation.   Homework topics are assigned to several groups and thoroughly discussed. The group leader presents answers and approaches to problem solving the following morning.

Lunch is followed by exercises designed to improve timing and understanding. Videos are available in the cool of the rec. room.

Siestas are not discouraged in the heat of the day.

Later afternoon rides into the wilds are available.

Topics like foot handling, catching difficult horses, kicking, biting, rearing, bucking, barn-sour, herd-bound, prancing, clippers, ears, spraying, bathing, water crossing, knots, rope-work, trailer loading, and more are addressed, demonstrated, and practiced by the students.

Individual time with your instructor as needed.

Happy horseman and horsewomen after a 7-day intensive.

As the week progresses, each session takes on its own personality as side trips riding into the mountains, volleyball, swimming, and adult camaraderie develop. Campfires, guitar music, story telling, and dancing are options available to all. Viewed as an adult camp with a theme, this format has the highest degree of retention by the students. Even veteran equine professionals are awed by the knowledge they bring home. Working with a large variety of horses with varying issues, is an invaluable opportunity and  critical to the learning process. There is absolutely no substitute for handling dozens of horses in one week!

Many former participants return to improve their skills or pursue Frank Bell Partner Certification. Returning students are encouraged to share the system with others as they hone their teaching, verbal, and public speaking skills. Frank Bell Intensives are truly life changing experiences.

All you need bring is your rapt attention and a burning desire to learn the loving, gentle process of riding safely with a new level of skill and confidence.
