Horse Problems

Almost every day someone contacts me about a " problem horse." Often such letters come from someone who had been warned by someone else about ridding themselves of " that dangerous horse" or something similarly worded. The  links shown to the right are to letters from people who have had baffling horse problems that they (and everyone they know), simply could not solve.

Several decades of working with innumerable problem horses has given me a wealth of experience that I am delighted to share with horse owners. It is for this very reason that I created a " Problem Solving Series" of videos to provide answers to the most vexing of horse training problems. Still, phone and email consulting consume a good part of my day. Throughout this growing list of horse problem letters you may well find the answers to your most difficult challenge if not, let me hear from you and I'll do my best to help you out!

Remember: Make the right thing easy and comfortable for the horse. Conversely, you must make the wrong thing difficult and perhaps even uncomfortable. Most importantly, have your plan and " ammunition" ready. You must react immediately when the unwanted behavior surfaces. If the horse hits the " brick wall" several times, he'll probably stop trying. Above all, be fair!

  Letters Of The Month: June 2006

Hello again Frank Bell,

I wrote to you a few weeks ago about my horse with the bucking history. I have had so much help from Sylvia Scott in Virginia already, I love her and she raves about you. I wanted your opinion on my horse.

You said very simply. . . "Its the saddle. Real obvious." I thought "jeez that is it. That is all he has to say?" I didn't believe you because I educated myself on saddle fit and had tried about a dozen saddles. Some were better than others, giving me less problems with her, but it always felt like the buck was there just waiting.

You were absolutely right! It was the saddle! I was given a broken TexTan pleasure saddle for free. I fixed it up and tried it on her. Voila! She loves it! I love it! We couldn't be happier!

I am sorry I doubted you! You are great! I will never doubt again! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I am sure you get thanks quite a bit, but I just wanted you to know that your methods work. We have an Arabian that is "too smart" to be caught....Against my father's traditional views of forty years, I was able to catch the "wild" horse without feed. Who knows if I can get him next time, but I have to commend you that your approach works and I will continue to take a patient approach that works for the horse and its companion.
